Emil Michael has served as CEO and Chairman of DPCM Capital. He is one of Silicon Valley’s most respected businessmen, having built three successful companies, including Tellme Networks (sold to Microsoft in 2007), Klout (sold to Lithium Technologies in 2014) and Uber. Mr. Michael has extensive experience identifying high-growth companies with technology opportunities, with investments spanning a wide range of companies including Bird, Codecademy, Docker, GoEuro, GoBrands, SpaceX and Stripe. Since January 2018, Mr. Michael has been President of Technology and Management Consulting at M8 Enterprises LLC. While serving as Chief Business Officer of Uber from July 2013 to June 2017, Mr. Michael led Uber’s operations in China and Russia, resulting in significant market value creation. Mr. Michael played a key role in raising nearly $15 billion in capital from investors around the world and led the merger of Uber’s Chinese operations with its main competitor in China, Didi Chiuxing. In addition, he led partnerships with the likes of American Express, AT&T, Daimler, Softbank, Tata Motors and Toyota. Mr. Michael also led the acquisition of Ottomotto, which became the foundation of Uber’s Advanced Technology Group, responsible for developing autonomous vehicles. He is also responsible for the creation of UberMilitary, Uber’s program for military veterans and their families. Prior to Uber, Mr. Michael served as COO of Klout, where he played a key role in the development of the social media analytics company. Klout was eventually sold to Lithium Technologies for $200 million in 2014. Before joining Klout, Mr. Michael worked at the White House as a special assistant to the Secretary of Defense. While at the Pentagon, he managed projects in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan, and worked on department-wide budget cuts aimed at reducing overhead and bureaucracy. Mr. Michael was also a founding team member of Tellme Networks, a pioneer in speech recognition technology and systems that was praised for surviving the technology crisis of 2000 and building a sustainable and profitable business. Mr. Michael helped Tellme Networks raise more than $250 million in venture capital from investors such as Benchmark Capital and Kleiner Perkins. He also led Tellme Networks during its $800 million sale to Microsoft in 2007. In addition, Mr. Michael has coached and mentored dozens of young CEOs over the years, providing him with a wealth of information about companies, technology and early-stage trends. He is also an advisor or investor in more than 20 start-up companies around the world, further enhancing his commitment to helping a new generation of entrepreneurs build and expand their businesses. He began his career at Goldman Sachs, where he was an associate in the investment banking department for a short period of time. Mr. Michael received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and his J.D. from Stanford Law School. We believe that Mr. Michael is highly qualified to serve on our board of directors given his extensive leadership and entrepreneurial experience in the technology industry.
