He also led KPCB’s investment in Twitter. His career in technology began at Intel in 1974, right around the time the chip maker invented the revolutionary 8080 microprocessor. During his years at Intel, he held positions as an engineer, marketer, manager and salesman. He also learned about operational excellence from Intel co-founder Andy Grove, which he still shares with entrepreneurs today. These include NewSchools.org, TechNet.org, Climate Reality Project and ONE.org. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from Rice University and a master’s in business administration from Harvard Business School. He also holds several patents for computer memory devices. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a member of President Barack Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. He is a co-founder and board member of NewSchools Venture Fund. He is a member of the board of Essence Group Holdings. He is also an angel investor. He was a member of the board of directors at QuantumScape. He was a member of Tradesy’s board of directors.
