Safa sees a consumer-centric world in which digital platforms make everyone’s life easier and more productive. Safa has been investing in startups in Silicon Valley and around the world since 2006, and serves on the boards of several startups and global organizations. Safa’s investment portfolio includes more than 20 companies in the U.S. and abroad. From 1997 to 2007, Safa was managing director and senior analyst specializing in Internet media and marketing, and lead analyst for China at Piper Jaffray and Company. He has led the firm’s efforts to expand the Internet industry and its expansion into China, and has worked extensively with leading Web 2.0 companies. Safa currently serves on the boards of YouEye, Capshare, Investmentyogi.com (India), Wings Learning Center and the Mexican Museum (San Francisco – Smithsonian). He also serves on the advisory boards of The Hunt.com, LocalMotion, Snapwire, Triptrotting (Wist), ChinaVenture (China) and Early Bird Alert. During his ten years at Piper Jaffray, Safa has received high rankings and recognition on Wall Street, including three consecutive years of the prestigious Institutional Investor (II) rating, as well as top stock picks and earnings estimates. In 2007, Safa was named Investment Analyst of the Year and received the 2007 New Economy Award from iResearch in China. In 2002, Safa was named to The Wall Street Journal’s “Best on the Street” list of analysts and also won Institutional Investor magazine’s “Home Run Hitters of 2001” list of top stock analysts. Prior to Piper, Safa held a number of industry positions. From 1992 to 1996, Safa was president of ColorWorks Graphics, a digital imaging company he founded in Boston. Prior to that, Safa worked in a variety of technical and management positions in computer graphics and engineering companies. Safa holds a master’s degree in business administration with honors from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Purdue University.
