Tikhon Bernstam is the co-founder of Scribd (Y Combinator ’06) and former CEO of Parse (Y Combinator ’11). He is an active angel investor.
Parse is the platform powering the next generation of mobile apps. Facebook recently acquired Parse for $85 million
Scribd (sometimes called the “Youtube for Documents”) is the world’s largest document sharing site with over 90 million unique visitors a month.
Tikhon is also an active angel investor in over 15 companies, including Optimizely, Crowdtilt, and Zenpayroll.
After graduating from Dartmouth in the top 2 percent of his class, Tikhon went into the Y-Combinator program in 2006 and started Scribd with Trip Adler and Jared Friedman. He was the top student in several Computer Science classes at Dartmouth like CS 25 Algorithms
Tikhon is also an active developer. He wrote a lot of code at Scribd and Parse, as well as handling much of the operations, including several years on “pager duty.” He has contributed to such open source projects as parse-ruby-client. He is credited in the very popular book “Rails Tutorial” in the acknowledgements as one of a long list of Rubyists who have taught and inspired [the author] over the years.
Tikhon is also featured in Randall Stross’s book on Y-Combinator, “The Launch Pad: Inside Y Combinator, Silicon Valley’s Most Exclusive School for Startups.”
